The girl squints at the light coming through the stained glass window and stumbles on the rough laid tiles as she leans in for a better look. Her mother's skirt swishes and brushes the altar cloth as she helps her up. The daughter stalks back between the communion rails, her back as straight as only an eight year old with wounded pride can hold it. She does not look where she is going.
