She looks back and forth, from the iron fireplace cover to the heavy table and up to the painted ceiling. She singles out something heavy and wooden on the table, and goes over to it. Slowly, making sure her mother is watching, she extends a single finger and pokes it, as her mother chokes out, "Don't touch," as though she was trying not to say it. The daughter smiles, withdraws the finger, and walks through the curved wooden wall.
