Report on MIT EECS Web pages

I think the purpose of this homepage is to inform people about the what is presently happening in the EECS department. The page also serves to give anyone interested in the department a way of contacting the staff, faculty, students, etc. if they are interested in applying to this school or if they are interested in finding work.

I think the page serves these two purposes very well because it is quite structured and divided up into very logical folders. I was able to find out what was happening by simplying clicking on the Current Events link and the Announcements link. If I were a potential student, college or high school senior, I could simply find out how to apply to MIT by clicking on the Admissions link. I was a little disappointed when I clicked on the CS link and found that is was no longer in service. The intention was very nice and honorable that MIT's EECS department would help a potential student/faculty/staff find other CS or EE pages. Too bad the CS link was down. I think this might be a blemish on an otherwise great page because it would make the person think how often the page is maintained and updated. I feel the page is middle/high-middle as far as how aesthetically pleasing the page is. The words are too small to be read comfortably. The structuring of the page is a 9.2. I think the links are very well grouped together and logical. The only reason I don't give it a 10 or a 9.8 is that the structure of the page in not as easy to navigate through as a Mac is to use. There is a down side to this in that the page can be too simplistic that it can be insulting to the user (like the public's reaction to Microsoft's Bob program). I think the Mac level is perfect. As far as if that will everly be possible or even worth the trouble, I don't know. The page is easy to navigate throught for the most part. I found that the links don't have too many gifs so it is not in any way time frustrating. Gifs would make the page more pleasing, though. I did not have any trouble at all looking for admissions information or information on the faculty or students. I can't think of what information would not be need on the page because as I looked throught each of the links and subquent pages, I found that the pages do provide useful information. Some do not provide a lot of information such as the Graduate link but that may be just because it's a certain time of the year where not much is happening. I fould that each of these links are a great additions and have a solid reason for existing.

This is what I thought of the EECS homepage. Overall, it is a very good page compared to some of the others I've seen. (i.e. some pages are not entirely functional which is very frustrating)
