The primary responsibility for the programs and services of the Crime Prevention Unit rests with Sergeant Cheryl Vossmer (crimbite@mit.edu), 617-253-9755. The goal of the Unit is to increase community awareness about the risk of campus crime and victimization and to generate a sense of responsibility within every individual to take reasonable steps to reduce that risk.

The Crime Prevention Unit also provides:

crime prevention publications
seminars
security surveys
IAP course in automotive safety
a weekly e-mail crimelog of criminal activity on campus (cp-crimelog).
timely e-mail bulletins about serious crimes (cp-bulletin).
Our next Laptop Registration will be held Wednesday, March 12th from 9:00am to 11:30 am in the lobby of Building 10. There is a $10 cash fee or a paper departmental requisition can also be used for payment. Sorry, but checks and Tech Cash are NOT accepted.
This loss prevention measure is a visible deterrent (6.3mb .WMV demonstration) for electronic devices. Once applied it takes 24 hours for the adhesive to cure then it takes up to 800 pounds of pressure to remove the tag. If removed, it leaves a tattoo stating stolen property. Please contact Sgt. Cheryl Vossmer (617-253-9755) for more information.
A current list of upcoming laptop registrations is available here.
