Distribution of binder©

This plot shows a progression of weight variations in both sample and setter due to binder migration. The percentages next to the data points show percent weight changes. At relatively low temperatures (up to approx. 150°C) most of the binder lost by the sample is captured by the setter (wicking). At higher temperatures, however, most of the binder volatilizes and smaller amounts are absorbed by the setter. We are currently in the process of monitoring binder migration across sample and setter cross-sections. This can be achieved by using a specially dyed binder.
