Each year, MIT's Campus Police officers attend the Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Council In-Service Program and receive cultural diversity and community policing training as part of that program. In addition, the department has implemented an annual Department In-Service, which is held every January. Since 1996, new officers joining the force participate in a specially designed orientation program which includes viewing excerpts from the video series It's Intuitively Obvious and participating in a facilitated discussion about the tape and cultural diversity at MIT. Those officers who attend the Police Academy also receive cultural diversity training while there.

  • Sloan Diversity Day and Committee
At the recommendation of its Diversity Committee, the Sloan School established a Schoolwide Diversity Day in the spring of 1997. Classes were canceled, and all faculty, students, and staff were encouraged to participate. Past programs have focused on demonstrating the benefits of a diverse workplace and bystander awareness training. In 1999, the event launched the "$10K Return on Diversity" competition in which teams are invited to submit a case study, a research proposal, or an action plan illustrating the mutual gains for businesses or organizations with diverse workforces.
