A pervasive climate of racism restricts the depth and occasion of great life experiences. We all learn from encountering, studying, and assimilating other cultures. Making rash judgements about others due to their physically observable differences diminishes our ability to grow in knowledge and adventure.
It worries me when I think of the abiding friendships and life lessons I would have missed absent my close connections with individuals from other races and religious backgrounds. Every child or adult, no matter what background, holds a spiritual and physical gift. Let us create a place where each person can share these gifts. We must remind each other of the value which comes from fair treatment. And we must eliminate the barriers to equal opportunityin our attitudes, on our campus, and under the law of our land.
