Gale CEO Offers Inside Look at Record-Setting Projects

MIT/CRE was delighted to host a breakfast talk by John B. Hynes, III, CEO & Managing Partner of Gale International, as a part of the Center's Learning from Leaders series, a program of presentations by industry executives. Mr. Hynes opened the Boston office for Gale International in January 1999 and orchestrated the January 2004 sale of the One Lincoln office tower in Boston's Financial District -- the most valuable commercial real estate deal in Boston history. He shared the "backstory" on that project and other Boston ventures, as well as the hugely ambitious Songdo City project in Incheon, Korea. See slideshow (pdf, 7.5M).
FIRE Takes Derivatives to Tel Aviv

Though his work at AMB Property Corporation keeps him as busy as a Chairman of the Board and CEO should be, Hamid Moghadam keeps his schedule flexible enough to ensure he can regularly present for Professor Gloria Schuck’s "Leadership in Real Estate" class. This year, via MIT/CRE's Learning from Leaders series, all area graduate students in real estate were able to hear him speak on the value of flexibility in development. Read synopsis of talk.
Industry Father Imparts a Lifetime's Wisdom

Known as the father of the real estate investment industry, Blake Eagle — like any devoted father — is happy to share with younger generations the lessons from a life of experience. New MIT Fellowship Honors Real Estate Industry Icon

Blake Eagle has been called the father of the real estate investment industry. He has also been praised for greatly expanding the Center's reach in his tenure as Chairman, meanwhile serving as a devoted mentor and friend to its students. To honor his contributions and to establish a living legacy that supports students of the Center, the Blake Eagle Fellowship Fund has been created to provide tuition support to a candidate for MIT's Master of Science in Real Estate Development. NCREIF Founder to Deliver 2007 MIT/CRE Commencement Address

Blake Eagle, founder and CEO of the National Council of Real Estate Investment Fiduciaries (NCREIF), will deliver the commencement address to the MIT Center for Real Estate's 2007 Graduating Class on Saturday, September 29th. Eagle was key to the development of the flagship NCREIF Property Index (NPI), the first large-scale industry benchmark of its kind.

Matthew Kelly Speaks at MIT/CRE's 2006 Commencement

Matthew Kelly, Vice President of Real Estate Strategy and Development for Walt Disney Imagineering, addressed the MIT Center for Real Estate's graduating class. Kelly shared his experience guiding the development of Celebration, an award-winning large-scale master-planned community near Orlando.

Professional Development Courses Launched

New for the summer of 2006, the MIT Center for Real Estate has introduced three professional development courses. These new offerings — Advanced Real Estate Development, Brownfields Redevelopment, and Entrepreneurship in the Real Estate Industry — complement the growing list of courses we make available to industry practitioners.
Heather Smith Memorial Fellowship Awarded
February 2006
On February 27, 2006, MIT Center for Real Estate graduate student Amy Merritt received the Heather Smith Memorial Fellowship Award. A member of the Class of 2006, Amy is the seventh recipient of the award, which is presented each year to one of the Center's female graduate students. Amy came to MIT after working for Green Street Properties, an Atlanta-based urban redevelopment firm specializing in mixed-use New Urbanist infill projects. Before working for Green Street, she worked for J.P. Morgan in New York as a financial analyst. Amy received her B.A. in Architecture and Certificate in Finance from Princeton University in 2001.
