Fundamentals of Loan Workouts

Course Overview
It is imperative in the current economic crises for real estate professionals to understand the vocabulary, objectives, and strategic tools for working with distressed financing and properties. This one-day seminar addresses each of these topics and provides participants with insights into the perspectives of both lenders and borrowers.
This course will cover many of the tools in the toolbox for lenders, borrowers, and investors working with these distressed assets. Topics to be covered include legal and business issues associated with mortgage default and workout strategies, loan collection and foreclosures, special distressed market financing and investment alternatives, joint venture and landlord/tenant issues, and the elements of loan purchase transactions.
Course Objectives
- Understand the vocabulary of loan workouts and distressed assets
- Appreciate the perspectives and objectives of both borrowers and lenders
- Identify strategies for restructuring loans, resisting foreclosure, collecting on debt, and investing in distressed assets
Companion Course
This course is designed to complement Fundamentals of Real Estate Finance and Advanced Real Estate Finance , allowing attendees to build upon the base knowledge acquired there.

During the course of his career, he has represented real estate developers, lending institutions and educational institutions. Douglas Burton is a partner at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr and a member of the firm's Real Estate Practice and Distressed Real Estate Solutions Groups. His practice focuses on all aspects of real estate law, including financing, private equity investment, acquisitions, dispositions and leasing. He serves as counsel for a broad range of clients, including pension fund advisors, Fortune 500 corporations, developers and non-profit institutions.

Course Fee: $750.

Finance Series #5 Fee: $2,475 (10% discount). This series includes enrollment in the Executive course, Advanced Real Estate Finance.
The program fee covers tuition, course reader, continental breakfast, and light refreshments. Registration and payment must be made at least one week prior to the course start date. Course information, including the reader, will be made available once payment is received.
