Application Process

Application Deadline

All application forms and materials, including GMAT and TOEFL scores, must received by February 15, 2007. Materials received after February 15th will not be considered. No exceptions.

Admission decisions are normally mailed out by April 1.

How to Apply

You will need to download our application instructions (pdf, 136K) as well as our instructions for those preparing letters of recommendation (pdf, 72K).

All applicants must submit the following items by February 15th of the year they wish to enroll:

If the above materials are not received by the Center for Real Estate by February 15, the application is considered incomplete and will not be reviewed by the admissions committee.

Please note that once MIT/CRE receives your application form and materials you will be sent an email acknowledgement.

You must apply for the MSRED program though the MIT Graduate Admissions website. You can apply in one of three ways:

  1. Apply on-line - YOU WILL RECEIVE AN EMAIL ACKNOWLEDGEMENT IF APPLICATION AND APPLICATION FEE IS SUBMITTED SUCCESSFULLY

  2. Download the application

Interviews are not part of the admissions process. However, the Center schedules an open house each Fall on campus to give prospective applicants an opportunity to discuss the program with faculty, students, and alumni. The Center also encourages prospective applicants to visit the Center and sit in on a class. Alumni of the program provide another source of information and assistance during the admissions process. Contact the Center for information about alumni who work in your area.

All applicants must submit the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) scores. An official report of the test results should be sent directly to MIT from the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, NJ. The MIT/CRE code number for reporting the GMAT score is X5X-W6-19. January is the last month for taking the GMAT in order to have the scores available for the admissions committee deliberations the following month. The committee will accept a GMAT test result issued within the last five years. The committee cannot accept a GRE score in place of a GMAT.

Foreign students must submit a score from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A score of 600 or better is preferred.

The admissions committee evaluates each element in a candidate's application as part of the whole. Selection is based on an individual's record and on their potential to expand the diversity of the class. The MIT/CRE code number for reporting the TOEFL score is 3504.

The admissions committee looks for highly qualified candidates who have an extensive amount of professional Real Estate work experience (3-5 years), a strong academic background, as well as clear and focused goals and objectives. Due to the work experience requirement, we do not admit students directly out of undergraduate studies.
