This web graphic was designed by Hecht Design. The graphic is a representation of a sampling of the 216 'web-safe' colors used in web publishing. These are the colors that will display correctly even when viewed on monitors with as few as 256 colors. A more detailed explanation is available here.
The MIT home page changes often; you can see a gallery of past variations. The Spotlight, with a changing graphic that calls attention to the new topic, supports MIT's mission and reflects the diversity of MIT itself. It does not represent a single voice but rather many voices, showing the Institute in a full and evolving way. The changing nature of the Spotlight reflects this goal of diversity by integrating and showcasing a multitude of aspects of MIT.
