I have been in school most of my life. My undergraduate degree took five years and I recently finished a PhD, which took an additional four years. My education will probably continue for the rest of my days. As my friends have told me, I am an eternal student. For my undergraduate studies I went to the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus (UPR-RUM), where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering (June 1998). Afterwards I went to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where I earned a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering (June 2001), a Master in Chemical Engineering Practice (June 2001), and a Doctor of Philosophy in Chemical Engineering (June 2002). For my research work, I had the supervision of Prof. Howard Brenner, of the Chemical Engineering Department, and Prof. Markus Zahn, of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, both at MIT. Now that I have finished my formal education in Chemical Engineering, I will return to my Alma Mater, the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus, where I have accepted a position as Assistant Professor in Chemical Engineering. I am really excited about returning to Puerto Rico and to my old school!
I also enjoy traveling and have been to Spain, France, Italy, Germany, various cities in the USA, and now Japan. This is my first time in Japan, and it is unfortunate that I don't have a great deal more time and money, because Japan is a very interesting, albeit expensive, place. Perhaps I will return some day in the future.
