Cooperation process between partners in inter-firm alliances. In detail, under
the assumption that the success of inter-firm alliances lies in effective
cooperation between partners, my research addresses two closely related questions:
What factors lead to effective cooperation between partners in inter-firm
alliances? How does such cooperation emerge over time?
Current projects
Based on the joint research agreement between Renault and Oxford University,
research at RSM with mixed roles as a third-party observer and a manager for
cooperation process. Areas of investigation include new product development
and project management, history of negotiation between partners to form a
Joint Venture, outsourcing strategy, and strategic positioning of RSM under
Renault-Nissan alliance.

Research interests
Rise of lean or flexible production as an alternative to mass productions
in the world automotive industry; consequences of lean production for economic
performance; the diffusion of this approach across company and country boundaries;
strategies and mechanisms of knowledge transfer and collaborative problem-solving
within and across firms; implications of these changes for individual managers,
engineers, and workers; and the study of "high performance work systems" associated
with lean production that seek to obtain competitive advantage through a systemic
approach to managing the workforce.
Current projects
The applicability of a "build-to-order" business model to the auto industry
as a possible "post lean" production paradigm; how "build-to-order" may be
facilitated by e-business initiatives (both B2B and B2C) and by experiments
with modular design and production involving automakers and first-tier suppliers
worldwide.
