Why it is that Dave teaches writing at MIT.
The power of reverse psychology:
Dave first came to MIT because there was no writing requirement.
Round about his Junior year, he realized that he did not want to spend
his life in a cinderblock room filled with the orange glow of furnaces
and the incessant hum of cooling fans. He prefered writing and majored in it,
only to become an electrical engineer. He returned to MIT putting
computers in writing classrooms. He has studied how people
compose by replaying editing sessions. His current research endeavors
revolve about asphalt emulsifiers and the testing and evaluation of
mountaineering equipment. Now he finds himself administering the
writing requirement to others. Well, just because he's visiting your
planet doesn't mean he's going to be consistent.
