• MIT Cyclocross 2nd at National Championships - December 2007 - MIT Cycling earned its 3rd national podium of the year by placing 2nd at the division 2 national cyclocross championships in Kansas City.

• MIT Cyclist Jason Sears recieves Stenner Scholoarship - Based on academic achievements, athletic accomplishments and service to the community with an emphasis on collegiate-team involvement and leadership Jason Sears (G) along with Mara Abbot of Whitman College is one of two recipients of the Stenner Scholorship. Usacycling.org and Velonews both have articles online.

• MIT Cycling powers super computer, sets tenative world record - As part of the Google / Specialized Innovate or Die content, two groups of MIT cyclists powered a Sicortex super computer in a dual effort to take top honors in the Innovate Or Die contest and set the world record for human powered computing. A first hand account has been posted Xconomy.com. Cyclingnews also has an article online.

• MIT Wins ECCC Cyclocross Crown - With a strong finish to the ECCC Cyclocross season in Warwick, RI, MIT Cycling took it's third straight ECCC Cyclocross Championsip. The team next heads to Cyclocross Nationals in Kansas City, Kansas to defend its 2006 National title. Eric Edlund (G), Bill Palm (G), Eli Papa (G), Jason Sears (G), Caitlin Bever (G), Ilana Brito (G), Sonya Cates (G) and Natalia Gardiol (G) will contest the national championship next week. • MIT Ranked a close third in ECCC Cyclocross - After a victory in the Sterling's Cross Race last weekend, the MIT team is currently a ranked 3rd in the ECCC conference, just a few points behind Drexel and Bard. This weekend, at the final cross race of the ECCC season, MIT will be battling to capture first place in the ECCC team omnium, hoping to capture its third straight ECCC cyclocross championship. (MIT won the event in both 2005 and 2006.) Bill Palm is also poised to win the Men's B omnium.

  In two weeks MIT cyclocross will travel to Kansas City to defend its national championship. MIT will be represented at the national championships by Eric Edlund, Bill Palm, Eli Papa, and Jason Sears for the men’s team and Caitlin Bever, Ilana Brito, Sonya Cates, and Natalia Gardiol for the womes team

• MIT holds its third annual Mock Race: New rider Anthony Sagneri wins on a solo break - Despite the 20 degree temperatures last weekend, MIT cyclists competed in our intersquad Mock Race. The mock race gives new riders their first taste of cycling competition. Two events were competed in the Mock race: the team time trial (a MIT specialty) and a 25 mile road race. Riders started in reverse order of expected finish time to give all rides a chance at capturing the gold. After stiff competition in the team time trial, the Mens B team of Kenny, Seth, Dave, Dave, and Tony were victorious. In the road race, new rider Anthony Sagneri went on a solo break in the second lap of the seven lap race, to capture the gold. Full Report

• MIT Cyclists to use bicycles to power computations in Innovate/Die Google-Specialized Contest. - The MIT cycling club is teaming up with Sicortex (a super-computer company) to enter the Innovate/Die Google-Specialized Contest. They have a converter that takes power from bikes and turns it into computing power. In addition, they want to enter the Guiness Book of World.

  Records the largest human-powered computation. This will be a great opportunity for the team to have exposure to the MIT community, MIT alums, and a great media opportunity.

  The contest will be held next Tuesday, December 11. Alumni are welcome to attend. Please contact Ilana Brito (ibrito@mit.edu) if you are interested in attending.

• MIT Cycling 2nd at Track Nationals - A small team of Jason Sears (G), Natalia Gardiol (G), Paul Nerenberg (G), AJ Schrauth (G) and Eric Edlund (G) traveled to San Diego for Collegiate Track Natationals from September 14th to 16th. The team competed in a variety of individual and team events and finished a solid second in the Division 2 team omnium. Jason Sears won the Divison 2 Men's Ominium for the weekend to claim the Stars and Stripes jersey. Photos and a race report are available.

• MIT Hosts 2nd annual Mountain bike race - Riders from the ECCC competed in cross country and short track events hosted at Wompatuck State Park. Hours of hard work and dedication paid off with a fun and successful day of racing. A Report is available.

• The first edition of the quarterly cycling newsletter "Cycling Review Letters" has been published. If you have a story, short or long, comic or serious, and would like to share it with our community, please contact cycling-newsletter@mit.edu with your idea.

• MIT Cycling Ranked 3rd in National ratings. With strong showings at road and cyclocross nationals, MIT cycling moved from fifth to third in the recently released division 2 national rankings. (August 2007)

• MIT Cycling 5th at National Collegiate Road Championships. Over three days of hard racing, the team of Caitlin Bever G, Ilana Brito G, Martha Buckley G, Eric Edlund G, Kristen Naegle G, Jason Sears G, AJ Schrauth G, and Chris Tracy G finish 5th in the division II team omnium. Pictures, race reports from the men's criterium and Womens Races and a Press Release (doc) are online. (May 2007)
