Day 1: traveling to

Alicia isn’t too happy about the fact that we had to cram TWO bags into one at Heathrow. Beware to traveling through Heathrow, it’s our least favorite airport.

I always take a
picture in front of Harrods (see

First site we visited was Checkpoint Charlie.

Here’s a good picture
in front of the

A section of the wall that was on display

I came for the Germany sausage and it did not disappoint. Check out the sausage fest, four total on top of amazing sauerkraut, that’s it for the meal!

In front of Gendarmen-Market, where the conference took place.

Day 2 – after attending the morning and early afternoon sessions of the conference

Here’s a long section of the Berlin Wall that is still up. Below the wall is the former Gestapo and SS HQ.

Here’s the

Potsdamer Platz has been built up with lots of modern buildlings.

A nice looking shop… or is it?

View of the Jewish Holocaust Memorial.

A view of the Reichstag in the background.

The Brandenberg gate.

Inside the top of the Reichstag. Can you find us?

The Reichstag was one
of our favorite

On top of the spiral walkways looking down onto the German Parliament.

Day 3 – Conference talks and Awards dinner

Alvar gave a great talk on SPHERES.

Day 4 – Going to

We part ways with Alvar.

After driving on the Autobahn, we arrive in Regensberg. Marcus gave us a tour of downtown Regensberg.

Here we’re on a stone
bridge which is over 700 years old. The

Wood pillars, over 500 years old, hold up the Salt storage facility.

Nothing beats a German Sausage sandwich.

The Romans built a few things in Regensberg, as shown by the sign.

Marcus and I are amazed by an arch built by the Romans. Major history here.

Tour guide Marcus points of the Gothic features of the cathedral. There are also Baroque features of the cathedral, but as we say, if it ain’t Baroque, don’t fix it.

Marcus explains how some of the houses, over 500 years old, are built. An exposed piece of the house shows the original wood supports.

Here’s where the beheadings occurred. Yikes, I’m sweating!

Thumbs down for Golden Arches making a German appearance.

A very old cathedral, over 1000 years old.
Day 5 – To the castles.

We part ways with the happy family, Moni, Marcus and Max.

Neuschwanstein castle.

We took pictures from the same spot that my parents and I were when I was a baby.

Check out the comparisons!

Relaxing in the town square before we tour the castles. The Austrian Alps loom in the background.

At Hohenschwangu castle (don’t ask me how to pronounce it) with Neuschwanstein in the background.

Hohenschwangu was getting fixed up, but it was still quite an impressive castle.

Now at Neuschwanstein castle. We asked some Korean tourists, who were plentiful, to take our photo.

Entering the castle.

Great views from inside.

Day
6 – In

We spent the night in

We only took a few
pictures of

Our sportin German car. The Autobahn is exactly as advertised. We went as fast as 105 mph as still had cars passing us. Our average SLOW speed was 85 mph, and we routinely went 95-100 mph, up hills, around curves. A crazy place to drive.

We checked out Weir cathedral and saw a nice billy goat on the way.
