August 2007 – Hawaii – Big Island & Hilo

We arrive at our first bed and breakfast in Volcano Country Cottages.

Alicia reads about the Rain forest environment in Volcano National Park

Interesting sap drippings

Crater in the background

Founds some mushrooms along the way, yummy!

Alicia, please heed the sign

We loved the vegetation along the crater

Wine tasting in Volcano national park’s winery.

Steam vents along the crater.

We also checked out some sulphur banks…

and they were really stinky.

Had some delicious dinners at our home away from home

Our first turtle sighting!

Another turtle!

Notice the sand, it’s black!

Here we are at the southern most point in the United States.

Checking out petroglyphs

Marveling at the interesting lava formations

Unfortunately no lava flowing, but still some great views.

Swimming in an area heated by thermal vents. The water was nice and warm.

Lava trees

Hanging out in a park after eating some poke.

Must get bananas…

In Waipio Valley, which had one of the best beaches.

We met a wild horse on the way down to the beach.

In Kaui now, in Waimea Canyon

On a beach where we snorkeled

There was a farmer’s market were we got a coconut.

Hmm, coconut

Yes, the sad sad story about our car getting graphitized.

Aloha Hawaii!
