Italy 2006

Sept. 29th

Hanging out at Heathrow airport in front of Harrods.

Waiting at the Milan train station, Milan Centrale.  Note the lack of bags. Way to go Alitalia.  At least the ice cream is tasty.

yummy, ice cream

I like the cool train station at Milan. Very large and impressive.

Day 2

Modena

Arriving in Modena, the city of balsamic vinegar. We bought over $100 of vinegar, and let’s just say, it wasn’t a lot of vinegar.

Modena train station on the way to Bologna. Yes, we still have the same clothes as the previous day because our bags on (hopefully) on route to Bologna.

La Tis, the place where Taco Night occurred in Bologna, the night before the wedding.

Alicia helps cook the Mexican extravaganza.

There was a piñata as well. Here the bride, Dr. Kate Huntington gives it a swing.

Day 2 in Bologna (Yay our bags have arrived)

Wandering the streets of Bologna. In the far background is the tower of Bologna.

Wandering around the main piazza in Bologna.

The Duomo in Bologna

In front of the Bologna tower.

At the villa, where the wedding took place.

Alicia helps out Brittany Huntington, a bridesmaid.

The bouquet toss was very intense.

VERY INTENSE! (Brittany won)

Wow, the cake was quite possibly the best cake we have ever had.

Day 4 in Italy, Bologna to Cinque Terre

A lot of our trip was spent on trains, which weren’t always on time, or sometimes broke down while we were traveling!

The view of Vernazza, from our room.

The view from the other direction. Amazing huh. Those are vineyards in the background.

Dan ate lots of pizza on the trip.

Yum, pizza.

Vernazza was a very beautiful town on the Mediterranean.

Another Rick Steve’s sighting. This place was America-town. Waay too many American tourists.

On the way to Monterosso.

Another view of Vernazza on the hike to Monterosso. Our room we stayed in is just to the right of my left shoulder.

See, it’s a beautiful town.

There was cactus on the trail!

Monterosso in the background.

It’s a long ways down.

The Cinque Terre trails are very nice. We had a wonderful time.

Vernazza way in the background.

Still on the trail to Monterosso (we took lots of pictures).

Almost there.

On the docks at Monterosso.

At Bar Davi in Monterosso, where we had some excellent dinner, bruschetta with anchovies and some spaghetti.

Second Day in the Cinque Terre.

Some Yummy bread and jam for breakfast.

There’s a cheese truck!

Now on the hike to Corniglia with Vernazza in the background.

It was a very windy day.

There were cats abound, both in Vernazza and on the trail to Corniglia.

Corniglia in the background.

In the town of Corniglia.

Corniglia in the background. On the way to Manarola.

Alicia studies up on the town of Manarola.

We had some farinata con il pesto (chick-pea flour pesto pizza), a specialty of the region.  “Super delicious” says Alicia.

There were many German tourists at the Cinque Terre as well. They are some serious hikers!

The ocean (Mediterranean) view was gorgeous.

We really like the rock formations.

Italian, English, and German.

Some spaghetti sugo de mare (with seafood). It was also delicious.

One last picture in Vernazza.

We didn’t take any pictures in Milan since we got there late and left early the next morning back to Boston! We had a fantastic trip. Hope you enjoyed the pictures!
