Oddly enough, there's been some talk in comp.society.futures about windowing systems, and an interesting article (included below) on OS developement (included below) landed in my mailbox recently. The problem with OSF/Motif - and X in general - is not that it's missing features; it's that critical parts of it are arcane and unusable. I'm not sure that the resource mechanism can be deleted from it in any reasonable way.
