• David J. Hogarth Here's my 2005 Annual Letter , a sermon , on the Epiphany, at Holy Trinity Cathedral, Rangoon, and another, for Saint Mary Magdalene , at All Saints' Church, Asmont.

    Greetings from David Hogarth!

ebullient here 1 , at a Brown University reunion, and another , 15 years later.
Then, on to my new life with my gradnchildren, a photo of joy in July 2004, when Santosh was two and Pramila, seven:

Perhaps more fun, here's a view of Jessica with me in HaLong Bay east of Hanoi in January 1997.
Here 's a recent photo, and another (with longyi !).

Decidedly more interesting, may I introduce you to Pramila , my grand-daugher photographed in Kathmandu, whence Jessica and Alex have returned from fetching her and her brother Santosh!

Click here to send me a note: davidh@mit.edu The 45th reunion of my Needham High School class occasioned my pulling up a 1953 photo of our class! The tragedy at Ground Zero is, I believe, best stated in the remarkable juxtaposition of Iwo Jima and Ground Zero; a collection of many such images is here .

A new venture has started with the arrival of a neat slide scanner: the gradual move of 47 years of slides to electronic format, of which the first two products are a gallery of photos from Jessica's wedding rehersal dinner at the College Club and the reception at the Children's Museum; then a sample from my latest trip to Burma, these of Bagan and a 300-year old wooden monastery. Now we've added a selection from a 1980 trip through Sumatra on the M/V Prinsendam . Back to the beginning, here are our first slides from the 1955 AFS trip to Belgium.

My 9-5 work at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology ended 31 August 2003. I sure took the cake at my retirement celebration at MIT! Happily, I've been invited to continue my work with the Working Group on Support Staff Issues, and to represent retirees on the Institute's Community Giving/United Way steering committee.

Across the Charles River, I've also retired after thirty-eight busy years at the Parish of the Advent , though it continues to provide most of my celestial nourishment. This tranquil shot in the garden is perhaps most appropirate in retirement. Click for a list of representative sermons at All Saints' Ashmont , and at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, Rangoon , or for a shot of me preaching .

The family with whom I've stayed so often at the May Fair Inn in Rangoon are a special part of my life in Burma.

Work continues at my 49 Symphony Road Co-op residence, while the past is detailed in a Resume . I continue with happy recollection of my 40th Reunion at Brown . Several years' vacations were spent assisting the Anglican community in Rangoon to repair the roof of their Cathedral, here showing both exterior and interior views ; here 's an update on that effort and a photo of the work in progress.

Still exulting in the total joy o f Jessica 's wedding to Alex Murray in 1999. It's not often one gets to preach to his son-in-law and daughter ! I t was a particular delight to be with Jessica , with all of the relatives from Europe , my family , and with the super couple , who cut such a beautiful picture , clearly happy right outside the Church, then sharing a moment at the waterfront.

You'll find recounting of travels in the Annual Letters listed on the Trip page. I've digested the myriad sights and impressions from the visit to Laos , my first visit to Burma , return for a second trip there and visit to Bangladesh , now completed notes on last winter's trip to Korea and the third return to Burma , then, following a visit to Cambodia, back to Rangoon for a fourth time. My fifth trip there was not vacation, but recuperation from replacement of both knees in November 2002. Following officiating at the wedding of friends in Phuket, Thailand, another vacation trip to Burma in May 2003, when I took time to plan my return in the winter of 2003-04, to teach at the Anglican seminary in rangoon.

I've scanned in some old family photos: just before my first trip to Europe in 1955 , my grandfather and his seven children (Dad in Army uniform) from 1941 , Grand-daddy in 1915 as a Canadian soldier, a 1939 photo of the five of us, and Mum in Atlantic City in 1935 . Though Iggy has left us, he continues in a black&white photo with me and Ron Hoffmann (his uncle and care-giver at MIT) from April of 1992 2 . An article from MIT's Tech Talk introduced Iggy to the MIT community.
