- Where do I drop off my child?
Each morning, groups will meet under the overhang
outside of the Johnson Athletic Center (see map).
- Where do I park my car for pick-up/drop-off?
Parking is a problem. We do not have any spots assigned
to Day Camp. If it is at all possible to walk your child to camp, please
do so. Otherwise, pull into the Kresge Parking Lot (see map)
and inform the attendant that you are just dropping off your child for
camp. This has been a successful approach in years past, however, we cannot
be responsible for your vehicle while you are dropping your child off.
Note: At the request of the campus police,
do not drop off your child from the Vassar Street side of campus. The
traffic patterns at this spot of campus are very dangerous and present
a safety issue for your children.
- What do I do if I arrive late for drop-off?
Campers must be signed in at the day camp office.
When possible, we request that you take your child to their group, after
signing them in. We must request, however, that parents do not
bring their children to the pool. Campers are not with their
groups at that time, and counselors will not be aware that a camper has
arrived. If there is enough time in the morning session, a counselor will
bring campers to the pool.
- What should I expect on the first day?
Please come meet your camp counselor on the
first day of camp!
Please inform him/her of your pick-up plans for the
afternoon. If you are not picking up your child yourself, the counselor
will ask you to sign a form listing the names of each person allowed to
take your child from camp. Those individuals will need to bring identification
with them each day they come to camp. Over time, the counselor may become
familiar with the regular pick-up person. However, due to absences or
special events, we cannot guarantee that the same counselor will always
be responsible for your child at the end of the day.
In addition, please inform your child's counselor of
any allergies, medications, or other special concerns that will be valuable
for the counselor to know.
- What do I do if I need to pick up my camper
early?
Please notify your child's counselor at morning drop-off in order that your child will be waiting for you at the Day Camp office at the desired time..
- What happens if I am late picking up my
camper?
Pick-up time begins at 3:45. After 4:00 p.m., your camper will automatically be enrolled in our late stay program. We will charge a fee for late pick-up. Late stay campers will enjoy activities in the air-conditioned Johnson Athletic Center (see map).
- What does my child need to bring to camp?
Your child should bring the following items to camp:
- Athletic clothing and sneakers
- Bathing suit
- Towel
- Lunch & Drink
- Snack
- A backpack to carry their items
- Filled Water bottle
- Hat and sunblock
- What should my child refrain from bringing
to camp?
Anything valuable! Ipods, Walkmans, trading
cards, Gameboys, money, or anything else of value should be left at home
in order to ensure the safety of your child's belongings, as well as their
safety and participation in group activities
No Heelies/Heelys, roller blades, crocs or flip-flops are allowed at the camp.
- How are the groups assigned?
Groups are assigned by age and gender. Each child
will be in a group with others of the same gender, and everyone in a group
will be a maximum of 12 months difference in age.
Note: The only exception to this rule occurs
when it is impossible to create a group with only 12 months difference
in age, due to the ages of the campers.
- What if my child wants to be in a group
with his/her friends?
We will make every effort to place campers in groups
with their friends if they are within the same age group. Unfortunately,
it is not always possible to meet every request. Please encourage your
camper to enjoy the opportunity to make new friends and focus on the fun
activities he/she will be participating in during the day.
- What if my child does not want to
participate in a particular activity?
All campers must participate in all activities. The MIT
Summer Day Camp is committed to the development of the campers' life skills through group
activities and exposure to diverse athletic and educational experiences.
- Does the camp have a camper discipline plan?
Our programs are designed to ensure each camper a safe and enjoyable experience. MIT Summer Day Camp embraces the numerous cultural and personal differences of campers and their families. Our staff actively promotes respect and appreciation for diversity of our campers' races, ethnicities, cultures, family structures, and other personal characteristics. If you would like a copy of our discipline plan contact camp Director Brian Callahan.
