"Every Shadow Has A Name" Landscape Photographs by David Akiba
May 10, 2000 - June 14, 2000
Curated by Michelle Fiorenza
The photographs in this exhibition are a selection from the first four sections of a book project entitled, Every Shadow has a Name. The Emerald Necklace, a park system created by Frederick Law Olmsted, is a source of inspiration for this project. In these photographs I have tried to achieve a fusion of form and feeling.
Form, gesture, movement and the action of light animate the image space. Seeing lucidly while remaining open to the unexpected is the essential act. Simple curiosity leads to surprises rich with visual pleasure.
Discipline in craft and sheer persistence provide a stage upon which the search for formal vitality continues.
