Karen Davis: Lines, Curves and other City Pictures

June 20 - August 23, 2002

Curated by Michelle Fiorenza

I am a street-walking, rubbernecking, urban enthusiast, taking in everything around me with eager eyes. In these places that are not home, I feel pleasure in my anonymity ‚ my invisibility. I love to cast passers-by into cameo roles in the moment-to-moment mysteries of the street. I am attracted to the lines and arcs, the rhythmic graphic elements of the everyday world, and to the artifacts of urban life: architectural details, signs, objects lost or discarded.

For me, the act of photography is an act of discovery, spontaneity, and movement. My first photographic explorations were close to home ‚ Central Square, Cambridge. Since that series I have photographed a wide range of subjects but I always return to cities, my places of endless fascination.
