Tina Dickey:
Works from a Small Studio
March 20 - May 10, 1995
Curated by Michelle Fiorenza
While living and painting in one small room, I realized that small paintings in acrylic would dry quickly, stack neatly, and could be carried to work every day to hang behind my computer. The practice enabled me to undertake a rapid exploration of the architectonic and emotional possibilities of color, light and the associational possibilities of semi-abstract imagery (and also keep a little of my mind in the studio while working 9 to 5!). The practice has since been emulated by peers in Northern Vermont and Provincetown as a means to free both hand and imagination from the constraints and demands of large paintings when faced with a need to take greater risks in their work.
