P H O T O G R A P H S by Michelle Fiorenza

February 15 - March 15, 1994

In 1642, Thomas Fuller remarked in an essay on architecture that light "is a principal beauty in a building." In the twelve years of my photographic studies since graduating from New England School of Photography, I have come to appreciate the thought behind this remark. I have been fascinated by the way natural and available light can interact with the architectural surroundings to create impressions of such abstract qualities as ambiguity, peace, and serenity. For the major part of this exhibit I chose a series of my work that concentrates on interior and exterior features of architectural structures. In these photographs, I have attempted to capture on film the unique atmosphere that these structures have forged with the light that surrounds them and the abstract qualities that the surroundings evoke.
