Glen L. Urban:
20 Years of Private Sculpture
September 21, 1994 - November 2, 1994
Curated by Michelle Fiorenza In the early 1970's, my wife Andrea suggested that I need a creative outlet and signed me up for a clay sculpture class at the DeCordova Museum School. This began five years of study with Peter Abate and twenty years of private sculpting while I was pursuing my public career as a professor. Over those years, I shifted fromlearning in clay to refinements in bronze and marble and finally mixed media pieces. I have only shown this work to friends and family, but I now consider MIT Sloan to be part of my family, so it seems appropriate to consent to show some of my private work here. Many of the sculptures I have created are large scale outdoor works and can not be included in this first showing of my work, but these smaller pieces are representative of my approach to this art medium. Sculpture has provide an important personal dimension to my life and has also helped me be more creative in my analytical research work at MIT. Enjoy the show and perhaps some of this work will affect you as well.
