Welcome to the MIT debate team! We are a member institution of the American Parliamentary Debate Association, and compete regularly on the circuit.

The website is now accepting submissions for loldebate pictures. Just take a picture of one or many debaters (with his/her consent) and add a lol caption!

RECENT EVENTS:

May 9: Second Annual Dan Barclay Memorial Debate

In April 2007, one of our teammates, Dan Barclay, passed away. The MIT team has since started a tradition of an annual public debate in his memory, on interesting and innovative topics like the cases he was best known for. This year, this round was held Friday, May 9th at 5:00PM in 3-270. It was between MIT's Kathleen Clark-Adams and Adam Goldstein and Yale's Josh Bone and Ashali Singham.

April 18-20: APDA Nationals at MIT

Nationals Results on the official Nationals 2008 website. Congratulations to the 2007-2008 APDA National Champions Michael Baer and Anish Mitra of Stanford, and thanks to everyone for attending!

We hold weekly meetings on Tuesdays at 8pm on the third floor of Walker, on the river side (50-306). On most weekends, we attend tournaments at various other colleges in the Northeast, occasionally flying out to schools like Stanford. We even go abroad, to such tournaments as the Worlds University Debating Championship and the North American Championships. In 2006, these tournaments were in Dublin, Ireland and Toronto, Canada, respectively.

The benefits of joining the debate team include learning and practicing efficient and persuasive public speaking, discussing any and every topic you can think of, all-expenses paid trips to other schools, meeting fantastic people from said schools, running the MIT tournament, etc.etc. The downside is spending various Friday nights and Saturdays away from the MIT campus (but hey, that can be a benefit also).
