MIT Tournament Invite 2007

You are invited to the MIT (MIT Innovation Tournament) November 30 - December 1, 2007.

Join us for 3 rounds of debate on Friday and 2 on Saturday morning, followed by a break to varsity quarterfinals* and novice semifinals.

Judging

Our tournament will have spectacular judging by some of the best dinos around. Erek Speed and Adam Groce will be co-judging directors.

There will be an (n-1)/3 judging requirement. Failure to meet the judging requirement will result a $50 fine per missing judge.

Judges will be permitted to give quarter-point speaker scores. Outround judges will be required to provide written RFDs.

Tab

Brace yourself for the most efficient tabbing you've ever experienced, run by Adam Goldstein, the developer of the renowned MIT Tab Program, and assisted by a team of quick typists.

Note that we reserve the right to break to octofinals if our actual, in-person registration exceeds 90 teams. The decision will be announced in GA before first round.

Housing

Housing will be available for everyone that needs it. Please contact Leslie Nachbar (lnachbar@mit.edu) with special requests.

Food

You will get 3 good, free meals. No scavenging around Cambridge looking for a place to grab something quick before racing back to GA. Also, there will be coffee *and* orange juice at breakfast.

Entertainment

We will be bringing back our hugely successful, APDA-sanctioned** 5-minute round tournament in between rounds. Speeches in the 5-minute rounds will be as follows:
PMC: 1 minute
LOC: 1 minute
MG: 1 minute
MO: 1 minute
LOR: 30 seconds
PMR: 30 seconds

The first and last 10 seconds of each constructive speech will be protected time, and POIs may be no longer than 3 words.

Separately, MIT is located within walking distance of numerous bars and clubs in Boston and Cambridge, and we will be happy to steer you towards them on Friday night.

Registration

Registration will cost $110 per team. For teams coming from NPDA, CUSID, or New York City or further south, registration will be $55. Late fees will be $10 per team per month.

Pre-registration is due at 11:59 PM on Tuesday, November 27 to: debate-request@mit.edu Please include the names of all debaters, teams, judges, novice standing, seeds. Also indicate whether you're interested in the 5-minute round.
