Postdoctoral Researchers - Data Assimilation in the Earth Sciences Several science and engineering departments at MIT have recently started a 5 year investigation of data assimilation issues that cuts across traditional earth science disciplines. This investigation is supported primarily by the National Science Foundation and NASA. The overall goal is to develop accurate and efficient methods for processing remote sensing data and other information of interest to earth scientists. Current projects include research on ensemble forecasting and filtering techniques, efficient model representation, multi-scale estimation, and geometrical estimation methods. Click here for further information. We are looking for postdoctoral researchers with strong analytical skills and an interest in oceanographic, meteorological, or hydrologic data assimilation problems. Experience in estimation theory, high performance computing, and/or innovative signal processing is highly desirable. Applicants are invited to send a resume with a list of three or four references to Prof. Dennis McLaughlin, Room 48-209, Parsons Laboratory, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA, 02139, USA, dennism@mit.edu. |

Graduate Research Assistants The Parsons Laboratory in MIT's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is seeking highly motivated graduate students at the Masters (SM) and Doctoral (PhD) levels. Opportunities exist in many areas of environmental science and engineering. A limited number of research assistantships and fellowships are currently available in the area of environmental data assimilation. This research is interdisciplinary, requiring studies in hydrology, applied mathematics, and remote sensing. Good writing and analytical skills are essential. Further information on specific research activities may be obtained under Current and Recent Projects. Applicants are encouraged to apply for September admission by the previous January 15, following procedures outlined in the Graduate Admissions section of the MIT website. Questions can be addressed to Prof. Dennis McLaughlin, Room 48-209, Parsons Lab, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA, 02139, USA, dennism@mit.edu |
