What is DMA?
Since its inception in the year 2000, the DuPont MIT Alliance has asked for proposals from the MIT community drawing upon the science, engineering and business expertise at MIT in an effort to extend the reach of DuPont's expertise in the areas of biotechnology, biomaterials and catalysis. We have recently announced a renewal of the Alliance for an additional 5 years of funding. The second stage of DMA will expand the collaborative activities of DuPont and MIT beyond bio-based science to include nanocomposites, nanoelectronic materials, alternative energy technologies, and next generation safety and protection materials.
DMA has brought together DuPont's and MIT's strengths in materials, and chemical and biological sciences to develop new materials and processes directed at bioelectronics, biosensors, biomimetic materials, alternative energy sources and new high-value materials. DMA has also provided an opportunity for DuPont to collaborate with MIT's Sloan School of Management and the Technology and Policy Program to define new business and policy models for these emerging technologies.
In each year of its operation, DMA has supported first-year graduate students through a pre-thesis fellowship program. These 120 DuPont Fellows have been engaged in the core graduate curricula of eleven different academic units at MIT. Beginning in the Fall of 2005 DuPont Fellows have been included among the graduate students who enjoy the privileges of Presidential Fellows at the Institute.
