DuPont Presidential Fellows
An important component of the DMA is the DuPont Fellows program. Each year the various departments and centers that are active participants in DMA research are allocated one or more first-year fellowships to assist in recruiting outstanding graduate students to MIT. The DuPont MIT Alliance has supported first-year graduate students with fellowship funding since September 2000. When the 10 new Fellows arrive on campus in September of 2007, the number MIT graduate students supported by this program will reach 130.
Beginning in the Fall of 2005, DuPont Fellows were granted the benefits of the elite Presidential Fellows on campus, a status that entitles the student to participate in specially designed workshops, seminars, career mentoring and cultural programs for selected members of the graduate student community. For further information on the Presidential Fellows Program, contact Janet Fischer in the Provost's Office.
The terms of the DuPont Fellowship are as follows:
- The Fellowships are to support incoming graduate students, matriculating in the fall, and are limited to the academic period (9 months).
- These Fellowships are not renewable for the support of the same student in subsequent years.
- Each home department or center is responsible for identifying the students to be named DuPont Fellows for the academic year.
During the spring semester DuPont will invite, at DuPont's expense, the group of DuPont Fellows for a 1-2 day visit to the Experimental Station in Wilmington. This event has had positive feedback from those who attended in the past. DuPont Fellows are under no obligation to participate in the research activities of the Alliance, although in some cases this long-term connection between DuPont and the student may arise naturally.
DuPont Fellows are invited to visit the DMA offices in the Chemical Engineering building, 66-470, and to contact us with any questions.
