What is the meaning of being lonely?

When mother, father,
closest friends and family,
dearest loved ones,
all those who have grown with you
and have seen you grow,
are thousands of miles away.

And the neighbor next door
who knows not your name
is not courteous enough
to turn down his bass
as his strange and obnoxious 'music'
bellows in your ear.

The pang of nostalgia,
yearning for the peaceful
flow of piano
that a dear friend has once played;
the sweet sounds of home
speaking of past joys and sorrows.

That, my friend, is the meaning of being lonely.
