Any |> tips? As other posters have suggested, a visit to the Grand Lodge apartments at 186 Tremont St, in downtown Boston would be well worth your time. [I'm not sure of their hours, so your best bet would be to call ahead (617.426-6040, 800.882-1020) and ask. The phone will probably be answered at the front desk, so ask them to put you through to the Grand Secretary's office for all the info you'd need. They might not ordinarily be open over a weekend, so be sure to call and check] The GL building is at the corner of Boylston and Tremont. If you're not familiar with Boston, Do Not Drive into downtown (consider yourself apprised in a timely manner!) The (T) has two nearby stops: Park Street on the Red line is about a block away and Boylston on the Green line is right across the street. The building has 3 large lodge rooms and 3 or 4 smaller ones, each in a distinctive style. There's a museum, one of the finest Masonic libraries in the world, and various objects of interest on display throughout. Also in Boston is Paul Revere's house, open and restored as a walk-thru museum, and all the tour brochures will tell you about where that is. Wear some insignia and you'll probably meet other out-of-town Masons taking the tour. Unfortunately, as far as I know, all the old Colonial lodge halls in downtown Boston have long ago been turned into parking garages, office buildings, and other modern improvements. The folks at the Grand Sec'y's office will know the most about any old lodge buildings still standing in the greater Boston area. -- dr foo +--------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Gary L.
