I saw in a book that he was one of the first elected officers. Would the Masons have any records on him and his family which would be of genealogical interest? Message:: We have a Mebron Brick called Brandywine on our new house. After it was washed with Banitrol or Vanitrol, the deep burgundy color came off. A representative for the company said he had never seen this before. We would like it replaced and the company says too bad. We have been told that it could be underbaked or overbaked. Is this true and what can we do about it?

First of all, let me say, you have an awesome site! I read the letter concerning the happenings in Alabama, and unfortunately, I was somewhat surprised.
As an African American Mason (A member of the Prince Hall F&AM Lodge) I find it a harsh reality check to see that there are still people out there who have such a limited capacity for acceptance and change, and still call themselves Masons.
Kudos to the brother who attempted to make the speech, and Shame on the "BROTHERS" who would not allow him to speak.
I could go on and on, but I will not take up your space. I will close with this thought.....
A Mason is a Mason, regardless of the complexion of his skin. It is the knowledge in his mind that makes us all the same. It is the content of his heart and the persona of his character that seperate us. Together we'll stand, but divided, we will fall.

I am sad when I read some of the remarks made by people who obviously have formed the wrong picture about Freemasonry. Message:: My father was a mason, Robert Richards, in Ridgewood NJ. I don't remember his ever talking about esoteric masonry. I have been studying the works of Joel S. Goldsmith who was a mason, and in one of his books he mentions being raised, I think that was the term into the Lodge of Living Stones in Leeds England. He also mentions the name "Wilmhurst" but no first name was given. Because of my study of Joel's works, I am interested in knowing what Esoteric Masonry is. Is it a mystical branch, part of Masonry? [Webmaster's note: I wish I could offer you some definite "answer", but you are struggling with a true crisis of faith and conscience. That struggle to find God and Truth is the highest task any human can pursue.
Perhaps you could try this: even as you feel lost, hold onto the things you still know are true, like perhaps the Golden Rule, the goodness of sharing lovingkindness (the "charity" described in 1st Corinthians 13). Try to look for the good in others.
Sometimes it will feel as if you are falling or drowning. Try to feel that you are resting or floating in a new level of faith, even if it's one you don't understand at all yet. Don't confuse uncertainty with fear. People may try to tell you what you "have to" think or believe. You don't "have to" believe anyone else, even this.

The lantern apeares to be a tower coupala with six windows and balconies and from its top are seven spikes radiating upward like a crown my guess is that it was made in 1920? Message:: Very interesting site. I logged in to see if I could get an answer to My Question. My Father in law was a Mason in Montreal Quebec about 20 years ago. He passed away several years ago, and my Mother in law is now moving out of their house to smaller quarters. In packing, she came across some of his Masonic accoutrements ie. a bible, an apron, and a plaque. She wants to know if there is some sort of protocol concerning disposal of these items. Message:: I have to say I love your site. I am currently doing research for a paper involving Masonry vs Christianity. My entire family is Masonic: my grandfather was a Mason, my grandmother a member of the NY grand line of Eastern Star, my mother is a past matron of Eastern Star and Past Beloved Queen of Triangle, my father is a past division/region Master councilor of DeMolay and a Past Master, and my cousin, my sister and myself are currently members of the Organization of Triangles (I am a Jr past state officer). My research has so far been absolutely infuriating in terms of how ignorant people can be concerning the organizations and thier true purposes. Message:: A few years ago, our life turned upside down, and I moved from my home lodge (Alpine Tx) The first year or two, I visited at Odessa Tx Friendship (or Fellowship) Lodge. A great bunch of men. Then we moved to New Mexico, and I became inactive and have been for some time. Recently my friend Gunnar Carlson a retired US Army Col, started asking me about Masonry (I still wear my ring) I found that I had forgotten much, so much I was not sure about visiting a lodge here. During the last few months Gunnar has joined and moved to the Masters Degree. He did it the old way, not a 1 day wonder, and he knew his stuff 100%. He has re-kindled my interest in Masonry, and I have learned a great deal from him. Much I should have known, and much many Mason's do not know. He has inspired me, I visited the Ruidoso Lodge last Monday, my first meeting in years, with Gunnar. It was the first Lodge he visited (his home lodge raised him 18 Nov) and the first Master's Lodge Gunnar! saw opened. I will join the Ruidoso Lodge and will become active again. I am a bit younger than Gunnar, but he has shown me his love of life and Masonry. His father was an Army General and a Mason, but Gunner did not know that until he was clearing out his fathers gear after he passed away. My grand father was a Mason and told me he had been a 33 degree. He tried to explain what it was about to me when I was 16, but I did not understand what he was telling me. My father became an EA after I was raised, but his wife did not understand Masonry, and he never finished. My father in law, Cecil Duncan, was a Master Mason from his 21st year. He was a great inspiration to me, he died just weeks after I became a Master Mason, I think he was waiting for me to make it. I wear his old ring. Thanks for being a

He suffers from several different conditions. The one that concerns me the most is his senility. He can't remember what lodge he belonged to or haow to get a hold of anyone. [Web-master's note: If you look around his house you could probably find copies of the monthly notice his lodge sends all the members. That would give you the address of the master and secretary of his lodge. The would indeed want to hear from you about his condition, and would also be pleased to let you petition as a candidate.
Also, you might find other lodge paraphernalia around his house: his lodge apron, maybe his Master Mason's certificate: usually it's a big steel-engraved document, with signatures on it, very impressive and most Masons in this country have it framed and hang it in their house. that will give you the name of his lodge.
Or if his daughter knows what town/city they were living in while he was active in his lodge, that might narrow it down.
If you can't find his lodge that way, then call the grand lodge of Indiana and see if they have his records. Some grand lodges are better than others about that. All the USA grand lodges are listed in the pointers section of my website.

[Web-master's Note: The ring is an emblem of the 14th Degree of the York Rite. The translation of "VIRTUS JUNXIT MORS NON SEPARBIT" is "What Virtue has joined, Death Cannot Separate." I don't know if you could read his entire "belief system/philosophy" from that ring, but it's not a bad place to start. The degrees of Scottish Rite Masonry are a wide and elaborate commentary on the basic lessons of Craft or "blue-lodge" Masonry (the primary three degress up to Master Mason), and have inspired many with the hopefulness and wisdom of their teachings.

[Web-master's note: Try contacting the grand lodge of his home state (the state where he joined or was longest an active member). Some state grand lodges have good records and organized access to this kind of info about their old members, some don't.
If you are sure he was a Mason, then maybe there is some memorabilia around with clues to where he was a member: his lodge Master Mason certificate, an old lodge notice, etc.

Offering the public this kind of information on previous generations of our brethren might be the most useful project we could perform. Every Masonic website gets frequent requests for information about Masonic ancestors -- usually for genealogical research, but often for other purposes as in this case. There is no public service project that Grand Lodge Masonry is better fitted to offer. The historical records are there, there are many knowledgeable Masons (with computer resources) in every jurisdiction looking for ways to be of service. All that is lacking is the management and the will. What are we waiting for?]
