SUBJECT: A PROGRAM THAT WILL WORK IN YOUR LODGE
Most of us can recall being in lodge and hearing the reports of the sick or distressed brethren. In many lodges that is as far as it goes. It's mentioned in lodge, but there isn't much of a follow-up.
Well, last Thursday evening, 2 Oct. 97, was our stated meeting. Sometime before the meeting our Worshipful Brother Secretary called the homes of four of our brethren who are house bound. He asked if it would be OK for some of the brethren to stop by on Thursday evening. Everyone of them said they would like that.
So, on Thursday evening we opened lodge in proper form. As soon as it was opened our Lodge Education Officer moved that we suspend the reading of the minutes and empower the Secretary and Treasurer to pay any necessary bills. The motion passed.
The Worshipful Master then announced that the program for the evening was to divide into parties and travel to visit our house bound brethren. He said all were to return to the lodge room by 9:15 to 9:30 p.m. The Junior Warden, Junior Deacon and Tyler stayed back. Everyone else got into cars and drove to visit our house bound brethren.
By 9:30 all but one group had returned to the lodge room. We closed lodge and went to the dining room for refreshments and share the experience with each other.
The Senior Warden says if he's elected Master next month, this will be a part of his Masonic year. When there is no degree work or any other program scheduled on a stated meeting night, from time-to-time, we'll be making visitations.
To me, that's Masonry in action.
