Message:: I am writing a bibliography on the life of Genl Benjamin Johannes Viljoen, a general on the Boer side during the Anglo-Boer War of 1899-1902. He emigrated to the United States in 1904 and passed away in Las Cruces, NM, in 1917. He is known to have been a prominent Mason who joined a lodge in the South African Republic around 1894, pesumably in Krugersdorp, Transvaal, South Africa. I am desirous to find out when he joined Masonry, where, etc. Any information will be appreciated.

Message:: I have unearthed an unusual square and compasses in the process of my research of Masons in Orange, Alamance and Guilford counties, NC. This one seems to bear, rather than the "G" or other letters to which I am accustomed, an Arm & Hammer. (Yes, it looks rather a lot like the one on the box of baking soda.) I cannot find anyone who can identify it. My uncle is a 32 degree Mason and has never seen it before. (Or if he cannot tell me, has declined to answer in that manner. If it is a Masonic secret, I can accept that, but want to know.) Any ideas? Anyone?

Message:: Thank you for this informative site. I am looking for the words to a song I heard on an old field recording from the mountains of my native Virginia, which I take to be a Masonic song. It is called "The Bright and Morning Star". Unfortunately the words on the record are not clear, and the singers had trouble remembering them. The author of the liner notes on the record was not even aware of the song's Masonic character. As best I can figure out, the first verse goes,
Come all ye Knights, ye Knights of Molay
And learn to do as I have done.
You might have been [unclear] brighter
When in the New Jerusalem.
The chorus goes,
We are the true-born sons of Levi.
We are the true-born sons of God.
We are the root and the branch of David,
The bright and glorious Morning Star.
It goes on to sing about the Ark of the Covenant and the crossing of the Jordan. If anybody can provide me with the correct words, I will be most grateful.

Message:: I have an 1800's quilt hand made with 4 - 5 Shriners Ribbons sewed on it. Included is an 1889 Ribbon from the 1st 100 Years after George Washington was President. the Centinnial I think.
