Message:: An ancestor of mine, William White, was one of the original members of the Mount Moriah Lodge #37 in Waterford Ohio back in 1816. I saw in a book that he was one of the first elected officers. Would the Masons have any records on him and his family which would be of genealogical interest? I would be interested in any info regarding where he lived, his wife's name, marriage date or any other dates, a listing of his children, etc.
Thank You Very Much,

RQFC-topic: bringing A.F & AM anf F &AM together
Message:: IF we dont come toghther the masonic order will never be strong or be able to be a real order of brotherhood.
[Webmaster's note: Apparently, in some parts of the
country "F&AM vs AF&AM" is a kind of code for "regular grand
lodge vs Prince Hall" branches of Masonry. Some people who write to me
refer to "three-letter vs four-letter" Masonry. Anyway, I guess that's
what they mean. Those of you who use these kinds of "code" should know
that it's not very accurate or correct. The regular state grand lodges
in the US are pretty equally divided between those using "AF&AM" and
those using "F&AM", and all of those bodies have been "in amity" for
many years.
There is no need to "bring AF&AM and F&AM
together" since they aren't apart: they have been together in this
country since the late 1700s, and in England since the early 1800s. ]

RQFC-topic: What is esoteric masonry?
Message:: My father was a mason, Robert Richards, in Ridgewood NJ.
I don't remember his ever talking about esoteric masonry. I have been
studying the works of Joel S. Goldsmith who was a mason, and in one of
his books he mentions being raised, I think that was the term into the
Lodge of Living Stones in Leeds England. He also mentions the name
"Wilmhurst" but no first name was given. Because of my study of Joel's
works, I am interested in knowing what Esoteric Masonry is. Is it a
mystical branch, part of Masonry? I am not going to use this
information for any other purpose than my own knowledge and would
appreciate clarification on this topic.
Thank you,
Elizabeth Richards

interest you. You might also look into the works of W.K. MacNulty, who

RQFC-topic: A brother in need
Message:: I need help. My girlfriends Father has been a member of
the masons for about fourty years. In the past couple of years his
health has greatly declined. He suffers from several different
conditions. The one that concerns me the most is his senility. He
can't remember what lodge he belonged to or haow to get a hold of
anyone. I beleive that they would like to see or hear from him if they
only new his condition. Please help me to get him in touch with his
fellow brothers. Secondly, about three years ago he asked me to lodge
with him. At the time I wasn't really concerned about it. Now I
greatly regret not accepting his invitation and I fear it's to late. I
was very ignorant of the dedication to one another that you have and
would very much like to join and have a chance to lodge with him in what
ever capacity he is able to. Please help him and myself. His name is
Cletus Jackson.
Thankyou Robert Grubbs
[Web-master's note: If you look around his house you
could probably find copies of the monthly notice his lodge sends all the
members. That would give you the address of the master and secretary of
his lodge. The would indeed want to hear from you about his condition,
and would also be pleased to let you petition as a candidate.
Also, you might find other lodge paraphernalia around his
house: his lodge apron, maybe his Master Mason's
certificate: usually it's a big steel-engraved document,
with signatures on it, very impressive and most Masons in
this country have it framed and hang it in their house.
that will give you the name of his lodge.
Or if his daughter knows what town/city they were living
in while he was active in his lodge, that might narrow it
down.
If you can't find his lodge that way, then call the grand
lodge of Indiana and see if they have his records. Some
grand lodges are better than others about that. All the USA
grand lodges are listed in the pointers section of my
website.
Let me know what you find out.]

RQFC-topic: Translation of Latin on Masonic Ring
Message:: Granddad left me a ring with the inscription: VIRTUS
JUNXIT MORSNON SEPAR-BIT. I may not have the spaceing correct, but would
love to know its meaning as it would lead me to know his intention
behind giving me the ring at his death. Then I'll know his belief
system/philosophy. thanks. rickgreendonner@hotmail.com
[Web-master's Note: The ring is an emblem of the
14th Degree of the York Rite. The translation of "VIRTUS JUNXIT MORS
NON SEPARBIT" is "What Virtue has joined, Death Cannot Separate." I
don't know if you could read his entire "belief system/philosophy" from
that ring, but it's not a bad place to start. The degrees of Scottish
Rite Masonry are a wide and elaborate commentary on the basic lessons of
Craft or "blue-lodge" Masonry (the primary three degrees up to Master
Mason), and have inspired many with the hopefulness and wisdom of their
teachings.

Message:: My GGrandfather was Archie Keys Henderson from Pittsburgh, Pa. He was born in 1842, died 18 Dec. 1924 in Pittsburgh. I have a Luncheon Program for the Archie K. Henderson Lodge No. 739 for the Free and Accepted Masons on April 17, 1925, at the Central Masonic Hall, 209 Collins Ave., Pittsburgh, Pa. This luncheon was given in his honor. I am doing research on My GGrandfather and his family and was wondering how I could gather anymore information on him or his family. Also there are many names of those who attended the luncheon and the Charter Members. Possibly this information could help someone else doing research. Thanks in advance. Rebecca L. Message:: My husband's grandfather (Walter Lee Bush, Sr)
was a 32nd degree Mason. We are now interested in
joining a lodge (and Eastern Stars) but don't
have any of his information, ie. lodge #, etc.
Can you tell me where I can find out this
information? Our children are also interested
in DeMolay & Job's Daughter's, so any information
you have about that as well would be a big help!
Thank you for your time!

[Web-master's note:
Try contacting the grand lodge of his home state (the state where he
joined or was longest an active member). Some state grand lodges have
good records and organized access to this kind of info about their old
members, some don't.
If you are sure he was a Mason, then maybe there is some memorabilia
around with clues to where he was a member: his lodge Master Mason
certificate, an old lodge notice, etc.
Best of luck.
NOTE TO ALL GRAND LODGE OFFICERS:
offering the public this kind of information on previous generations of
our brethren might be the most useful project we could perform. Every
Masonic website gets frequent requests for information about Masonic
ancestors -- usually for genealogical research, but often for other
purposes as in this case. There is no public service project that Grand
Lodge Masonry is better fitted to offer. The historical records are
there, there are many knowledgeable Masons (with computer resources) in
every jurisdiction looking for ways to be of service. All that is
lacking is the management and the will. What are we waiting for?]

John was born in PA in 1818, and moved to NC in the early 1840's. The names of his parents or siblings are unknown to us. I appreciate any help that anyone can give me.
