Message:: Furthering my studies into Freemasonry, I am particularly interested in the ancient history of the society, and the teachings that have suppossedly been passed down through the ages. I'm also very interested in Classical Civilisations like Ancient Egypt and am fascinated to learn that there appears to be so form of correlation between the masonic teachings, and the practices of these ancient and justified peoples. I think I'm going to take the plunge, and ask one of my masonic friends if I may join. But I don't know the best way to approach the situation. With a society such as this, in which 'outsiders' are not privvy to the activities behind the lodges' closed doors, a certain paranoia is created. And now whenever I speak with my masonic friends (who know I have an interest in the subject) I always feel like they're testing me covertly to see if I'm worthy :) - or maybe they're just waiting for me to come out with it and just ask to be one! Can you give ! me any tips on the best approach to take, things I should be aware of, things I should not mention? I'd appreciate the help.

RQFC Details: By your question: Are you a Masonic researcher? I am not a mason, but I am researching masonry to some degree at an autodidactive level. I'm interested in the 33degrees. And also links from Masonry to other societies and ancient histories/teachings/civilisations.
[By that I mean, are you trying to prepare a research paper, or are you just hoping to find pen-pals? Web-site visitors should use the Request for Correspondence feature for the former, but the guestbook itself is adequate for the latter. Clear?]

RQFC Details: I am trying to find information about my grandfather, Job Lee, who was a Mason. I have a certficate which bears his name saying that he was admitted on the 5th January 1960 into the Middlesex Imperial Yeomanry Chapter 3013. I also have another certificate from the United Grand Lodge to say he was inducted into Freemasonry on 4th October 1937 at Excalibur Lodge, London 4969.
