RQFC-topic: ranks in Ancient,and free,and accepted masons.
RQFC Details: I am very interested in this as both of my grandfathers
were free masons. I have recentley found a certificate of one of my
grandfathers dated 1918 attaining to the rank of Mask Mason. Is this rank
low or high in the order. If possible can you help me out on this. Thank
you.
[Web-master's note:
Mark Mason, not Mask Mason. In America it is part of the York Rite's
Royal Arch Chapter degrees, and is the first degree a candidate receives
after Master Mason (3rd degree). In England (and I suspect, Australia
as well) the Mark degree is part of the Fellowcraft (or 2nd) degree.
"Rank" means less than non-Masons think it does. A member joins a Craft
Lodge or Blue Lodge and takes the three degrees of Entered Apprentice
(1st), Feelowcraft (2nd), Master Mason (3rd). After that, if he wishes,
there are all kinds of side bodies, affiliated orders, appendant orders,
that he can join. Some of them number their degrees, some don't.
Master Mason is the "highest" degree in Masonry. Period.]

Third, I am very much interested in the Masonic interpretation of religious dogma and the process of history.
