He died when I was an infant, but my mother knew her grandfather well. He died at the age of 89, in 1954. He was a native of Windsor, NC, but had lived in Norfolk for about 67 years. I don't think he was a founding member of the Norfolk lodge, per se, but I'd just like to find out if the existing lodge has a history that might have mentioned his name in any of their correspondences or proceedings. I'd appreciate any help anyone could give me. Thank you! Audrey J. Childs

RQFC-topic: William Lahners of Decatur, Macon County Lodge #8
RQFC Details: Hello, I am working on my family genealogy and discovered my great, great grandfather, William Lahners was a Mason at Decatur, Macon Lodge #8. I was wondering how I could go about confirming this and finding out if there is any information / photographs about him there. He lived in Decatur and was a yardmaster at the Wabash RR there. His obit. also doesn't make much sense to me because I know little or nothing about the Masons. I would truly appreciate any interpretation of the following from his obituary. His obit says something like: Macon lodge No. 8 A. F. and A. M., Macon chapter No. 21, R. A. M. Decatur council No 16. R. and S. M. Beaumangic (illegible spelling?) commandery No. ? (illegible) Knights Templar, and Aasar Shrine. A. A. O. N. M. S. of Springfield. It is truly difficult researching him, because I live in Los Angeles, California and your generous assistance would be truly appreciated. Sincerely, Jeff Loftin
