The jars and sack held the wages of the craft. It also contains a handwritten letter from the American Consul of Jerulsalem to the Consul of Malta. The box lid is inscribed with the words "George Wallace", below which is the inscription "271". Also, the crystal jars are etched with the initals G W and the Square and Compasses. RQFC-topic: A short overview of freemasonry
Message:: Greetings to all of you from korp! "Vironia".
Korp! (or fraternity, if you like) is a Baltic-German
form of student organisation. It has several things in
common with masonry. For example it's for men only, it
has old traditions (not as old as Yours but a few centuries
anyway...), it's an intimate organisation, meaning not
much information goes outside the members about
it's activities, etc
I as a young member decided to do my research (compulsory
for applying for full membership) on freemasonry. To compare
it with korp! life.
I gained a lot of good material from this page.
So I hereby wish to thank the webmaster.
Sincerely yours Martin Laan c 97/I

RQFC-topic: Masonic symbolism
Message:: I am presently researching the links between Tubal cain,
master engraver, who inscribed with lapis-lazuli upon a slab of iron the
origional "Word". Lapis-lazuli is an aluminous mineral of a rich blue
colour which may explain the use of the word "Blue" in the Blue
Lodge. My research has indicated that this slab of iron is the Lapis
Exillis(the one true stone that fell in exile from heaven) and is the
stone spoken about as "that rock of Erick at Avalon" which dates back to
the Ancient continent of Mu. In tracing the history of this stone and
its attendant secrets have led me to believe that The Great White
Fraternity was formed to act as "Guardians" of the knowledge and that
its initiates have throughout history preserved this knowledge. It is my
contention that the Grail, the Philospher's Stone, the Black Stone of
Mecca are merely metaphors that allude to this great secret. The Ark of
the covenant once housed this great power source. The secret was passed
from the great initiate Moses to King David and then on to King
Solomon. From Solomon the secret eventually passed on to Joseph who took
it with him to the south of France.. At first glance one would think
that the Masons were the guardians of this knowledge but sadly empirical
evidence does not bear this assumption out. If the Masons did at one
time possess this knowledge it has been either lost or hidden in such a
manner that Masonic initiates today do not possess the right keys to
unlock the knowledge they claim to have once possessed. Since I dont
know if this message is secured it is best that I limit what I say. If
any of your members would care to correspond with me regarding my
research into this important area I would appreciate it. Yours from a
different faith, Thomas

this? Any light you may be able to shed on this
subject is much appreciated. Thank you for your

RQFC-topic: Relationship between Ritual work and Mil. Drill
Message:: I believe there is direct relationship between modern military drill and Ritual work. Who ever wrote the book on modern military drill must of been a mason. The drill used today on the square to move a soldier or units of soldiers I feel originated somewhere in France around the 17th century to better unite the many different militia outfits into a coordinated army. Can anybody help me with this research.

RQFC-topic: Co-Masonry and "The Cretona Fellowship" in the UK during the 1930's
Message:: I wonder if anyone may be able to help me. I am a follower
of the neo-pagan religious faith often known as Wicca. I have been
researching the history of this religion, and in particular am
attempting to trace what other mystical, occult, and speculative
organizations may have had influences upon its beliefs and
practices. Wicca has several apparent similarities to what little I know
of Masonry (e.g. some details of how a candidate is "properly prepared"
for initiation, the existence of several degrees of initiation and oaths
of secrecy, being refered to as "the Craft", the phrases "the Working
Tools", "So Mote It Be" and "the Charge", etc.)
The modern flowering of Wicca was started in the early 1950's in
England by Gerald Gardner, who was then a retired civil servant. In his
writings and those of some of his initiates, it is said that he was
himself initiated into this religion in 1939 by a Mrs. Dorothy Fordham
(nee Dorothy St. Quintin Clutterbuck), then a spinster of considerable
independent means, in Highcliffe, near Christchurch in the New Forest in
the south of England. Mr. Gardner mentions that he met Mrs. Clutterbuck
in 1938 through the auspices of "The First Rosicrucian Theatre in
England", which opened in June 1938 in nearby Somerford, and which was
run by an occult society that went by the name of the Fellowship of
Cretona or the Cretona Fellowship.
This Fellowship of Cretona was apparently run by one
Dr. G.A. Sullivan, who was a noted Shakesperian actor under the stage
name Alex Mathews, and who was known within the Cretona Fellowship by
the name "Brother Aurelius"; and by Mabel Besant-Scott, a co-mason and
ex-Theosophist and daughter of the noted co-mason and occultist Annie
Besant. Apparently a number of the members of the Cretona Fellowship
were co-masons, from a London-based Co-Masonic group that supposedly was
founded by Annie Besant and affiliated with the Grand Orient of
France. I have also been led to believe (but have seen no written
evidence) that some of the members had also earlier been members of the
Society of Inner Light, which was founded and headed by the Theosophist
and author Dion Fortune (nee Violet Firth), but had split with that
organisation to join the Cretona Fellowship.
I am particularly interested in tracing information about the
membership of the Cretona Fellowship during the period leading up to
1939, and finding out what (Co-)Masonic, Rosicrucian, Theosophical, or
other occult societies its leading members (in particular Mrs. Dorothy
St Q. Clutterbuck / Fordham) were also or had previously been members
of. I was wondering if you had any idea whether there were any Masonic
or Co-Masonic organizations that might have records of this information;
or if you know of any books or scholarly material that might shed light
upon these matters, or indeed on the interrelations of Co-Masonry, the
Society of Inner Light, Rosicrucianism and Theosophy in England during
the early parts of this century.
yours sincerely,
-- Dr. Roger Dearnaley

RQFC-topic: Lewis,or lewis, A man or a "cramp"
Message:: Ran Across a Lewis, capital "L" in referance to a tool
called a "cramp". Was He the inventor? What is or who is a Lewis? A
cramp was used to set large stones.
[Web-master's note: Masonically-speaking, a "lewis"
is the son of a Mason who is accepted into a lodge although he is not
yet old enough under traditional requirements -- for instance, at age 18
in a jurisdiction that ordinarily requires applicants to be at least 21.
The analogy is that the lewis tool is used to raise into place a stone
that has been properly prepared, thus in some jurisdictions, the son of
a Mason would be expected to have been properly prepared by his
upbringing under the care of a Mason. Derivation? I have an on-line
dictionary that suggests that it came from the name "Lewis" but I
suspect it is from the same root ("levis" in Latin meaning "light in
weight") as levitate and levity, both having connotations of lifting.]

there were two rival branches "Ancients" ("Antients") vs. "Moderns" Each
of those branches started some Grand Lodges in the US, which kept the
initials. Some state grand lodges were chartered by earlier ones in
other states, and inherited their initials.
There's no difference between the two anymore. AF&AM and F&AM state
Grand Lodges and the lodges under them all recognize each other these
days.]

RQFC-topic: Masonic Funeral ceremony and ritual roots
Message:: I am preparing a paper on the role of the Masonic funera graveside commital and or Memorial service. Looking for where and when US GLs started using the ceremonies and where all in the Masonic world are they still performed. I know that it was forebiden in the GL England jurisdictions after 1967 and their attempt to remove Masonry from church activities. I support our Masonic farewells and all that it means to the widowss and families and for which we provide for our departed Brother. Please advise as soon as possible. Your support will be fraternally appreciated
Jim Hickman.
