I became a Mason because of my father.
I remember that we visited the Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor
sometime in 1988 or 1989. A man was standing beside us and he asked my
father if he was a Traveling Man. My father said yes and they had a
conversation over the next few minutes. Afterwards, I asked him if that
happened often because the man was from Australia and they chatted like
they had been friends since they were kids. That's when I decided I
wanted to become a Mason. Shortly after that, I asked my father how I
could become one. He never asked me - he waited until I asked him.
I have been a Master Mason since 1990, and my proudest moment was
after I became a Master Mason, my father gave me his ring while we were
in lodge. It was the same ring I used to play with when I was a
kid.
