Welcome to the
Office of Advancement
The DAPER/DSL Office of Advancement was instituted in 2007 to encourage financial donations and steward relationships in support of MIT's intercollegiate, physical education and recreational sports programming. The Office fosters donors, supports volunteers and works across the broad spectrum of the MIT community to highlight DAPER's programs, funding requirements, events
and opportunities. |
Similar to most departments across MIT and athletic department programs at other Ivy-plus universities, DAPER must receive gifts to offset total expenses. Gifts, at all levels, are crucial to maintaining and enhancing MIT's high quality, participation-based sports programming. ---Julie Soriero, Department Head and Director of Athletics

Events | Annual Events | Anniversaries |
Alumni, parents and friends 'join the team' by attending special anniversary celebrations, and
on- and off-campus competitions and events. These events are great opportunities to meet the current coaches and student athletes, network with MIT community members, and cheer for the Engineers.
Giving | Annual Fund | Capital Projects | Endowment |
The Annual Fund consists of gifts of all sizes to support DAPER's general mission or targeted to specific sports and programs. Annual Fund giving to DAPER has doubled in the last 5 years to $750,000 in FY07. Through increased participation and gift amounts the goal is to re-double the annual fund giving. Our target of $1.5 million, will enable the continued success of all DAPER Programs. For more on DAPER's fundraising, go to giving.mit.edu
Gifts for Capital Projects renew competition, education and recreation venues to meet the highest standards.
The priorities are:
- Briggs Field renewal including several illuminated turf fields for intercollegiate, club, intramural and recreational sports,
- floating docks for the sailing pavilion,
- a state-of-the-art fencing facility.
Endowment of positions and operating expenses guarantees sustained excellence in DAPER's programs in perpetuity.
Volunteer | Friends of DAPER | Institute Partners |
To be successful, student athletes require a web of support from alumni, parents and staff. Through a coordinated effort from Friends of DAPER Board and MIT’s various sports groups, alumni volunteers engage other alumni to encourage support, to attend games and events, and to mentor students. The Office of Advancement works closely with Resource Development Leadership Gift Officers, the Alumni Association and MIT senior leadership to gather support for DAPER programs and initiatives. Additionally, this office provides support to DAPER’s varsity coaches and club representatives to enable and enhance their outreach.
