Changing the World: Proposed Achievable, Demonstrable Use Cases

Success in this research agenda would be evidenced through specific capabilities:

  1. Ability of libraries to support community-specific asset types, metadata schemas, community-sourced metadata and services.

See examples from Phase 1 and Phase 2 in research methodology, below.

  1. A User Interface that allows librarians and patrons to navigate and interact with the community-annotated corpus, potentially including:

-         descriptions of resources available elsewhere (e.g. other institutions, “federated” DSpace sites, metadata from academic presses or other publishers, community or individual holdings)

-         collaborative maintenance of the DSpace corpus by Librarians and/or community members

-         metadata supporting digital preservation

-         a “Digital Reference” UI, and schema for describing patron interactions with reference librarians
