Meetings

DURINT REVIEW MEETING: The first annual review meeting was held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology April 25-26, 2002. A number of collaborators from the U.S. Office of Naval Research (ONR), Argonne National Laboratory (ANL), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), Rutgers University, and the University of California at Irvine were in attendance. Prof. Subra Suresh presented an overview of the DURINT team's accomplishments over the past year, highlighting processing, mechanical characterization and computational modeling of nanocrystalline deformation of pure and alloyed materials. Co-PIs and other team members presented brief progress updates on specific content areas, and outstanding questions and issues were discussed throughout the presentations. In addition to the technical talks presented, 17 posters were presented by graduate students, postdoctoral associates and research scientists during a poster session in MIT's new NanoMechanical Technology Laboratory (NanoLab) established by the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. The first annual review banquet dinner provided an opportunity for new team members to interact on a more casual level and to discuss various potential projects to meet the team's goals in the coming year.
