The Department of Urban Studies and Planning offers a two year professional degree (Master of City Planning) and a one year mid-career degree (Master of Science) for students specializing in environmental policy and planning.
There are three special features of graduate study at MIT that distinguish it from similar options at other universities.
- First, each student is encouraged to pursue a highly personalized course of study in conjunction with his or her faculty advisor. Students can place out of all but one of the required core courses leaving more than threefull semesters to devote to individually-tailored studies.
- Second, students are encouraged to participate, on a for-credit basis, in joint research projects and field-based internships focused on issues and problems central to their interests. These may involve site-related work either in the United States or in various locations overseas. All project work is supervised by regular members of the DUSP faculty.
- Third, students are encouraged to cross-register for advanced courses in any and all departments and schools at MIT or Harvard. This creates access to the most advanced scholarship available anywhere in the world.
General information about the MCP program can be found at the
Department of Urban Studies and Planning web server. A sample two-year curriculm for EPP students is available here.
