MUSIC Faculty Present at National Conference on Ecosystem Restoration - April 2007
Prof. Judy Layzer and Dr. Herman Karl participated in the 2nd National Conference on Ecosystem Restoration in Kansas City, MO, April 23-27, 2007. The theme of the conference was, "The Spirit of Cooperation–Integrating Partnerships between Science and Management for Sustainable Ecosystem Restoration." Prof. Layzer gave a talk, "Natural Experiments: The Politics of Ecosystem Management in the U.S." It was the lead presentation in the session, "Planning II—The Big Picture." The abstract is below. Her presentation was based on extensive research conducted for her forthcoming book, "Natural Experiments" Ecosystem Management and the Environment." Dr. Karl moderated the session, "Planning III—Cooperation," which consisted of five presentations (Partnerships for effective science and management of natural resources—parts 1 and 2, Working with stakeholders to craft Missouri River recovery solutions, Collaborative efforts of restoration in the Middle Rio Grande Bosque, and Collaborative bull trout restoration on the Little Lost River, central Idaho) and a panel discussion.
