Herman Karl receives USGS 30 year service award

During the May 3 visit to MIT, USGS Director, Mark Myers, presented Herman Karl with his 30 year service award. Herman started his career with USGS as a young marine geologist in Menlo Park, California. He's had many adventures at sea over the years. However, the biggest adventure of all is his new career as co-director of MUSIC! Although Herman can officially retire from government service, he intends to continue to develop MUSIC for years to come, keeping the USGS outpost (identified by a USGS field camp flag in his office) at MIT alive and well.
