USGS Director meets with MIT President

USGS Director, Mark Myers, Associate Director for Geography, Barbara Ryan, and Chief Scientist for the Geography Discipline, Bruce Jones visited MIT on May 3. During the morning they met with MIT President, Susan Hockfield, Dean of the School of Architecture and Planning, Adele Santos, Chair of the Department of Urban Studies and Planning, Larry Vale, and MUSIC co-directors Larry Susskind and Herman Karl to discuss MUSIC. Both USGS and MIT confirmed their long term support for MUSIC and the important role it plays in bridging the science/policy/management/civic engagement gap. After the morning meeting, Mark, Barb and Bruce spent the day reviewing MUSIC projects, which included presentations by the MUSIC interns and affiliates. Following the presentations they attended a luncheon at the MIT Faculty Club that included the MUSIC interns and affiliates and invited guests from MIT, Tufts and the Kendall Foundation.
