Boston Society of Architects Announces WINDSCAPE:
An Ideas Competition Envisioning Renewable Energy
Many Americans agree that a renewable energy source such as wind power could offer environmental, economic, and health benefits to ur country. but the vision of incorporating wind farms into the landscape remains unclear for many people across the nation. What will wind farms do to the surrounding property values? Will they look industrial? Will they obstruct the view? What would it be like to live next to a wind farm? The Windscape Competition presents the unique opportunity to present the vision and potential of wind energy, through the excitement and design innovation of entrants' visions, to face the need for a change while addressing aesthetic and perceptual concerns. The BSA seeks to promote a dialogue among as many people as possible and challenges entrants across the country to:
- Address the view without losing the vision.
- Ask how the vision of clean, renewable large-scale wind energy can be compatible with an environmentall sensitive region whose economy is based on tourism
- Envision a wind park that is more than just a utility to generate electricity
- Educate the public about the impacts of renewable wind energy and further the dialogue about all renewable energy in our country.
Registration closes September 30, 2005. For more information on the competition guidelines and how to enter, please see the Windscape Competition web site.
